Dr. Parastoo Jangouk is a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist with a passion for integrating evidence-based medicine, lifestyle interventions, and mind-body approaches to health and healing.
She earned her medical degree with honors from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, where she also received distinction for her research in gastroenterology. Following medical school, Dr. Jangouk completed research fellowships at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, Germany, and Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, authoring numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading medical journals.
She subsequently moved to the United States to complete her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). She then pursued fellowship training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Yale University School of Medicine. During her fellowship, she worked with renowned hepatologist Dr. Guadalupe Garcia-Tsao on research focused on developing noninvasive tools for the diagnosis of cirrhosis.
After completing her fellowship, Dr. Jangouk joined the faculty at UCLA, where she served as an attending physician in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. During her time at UCLA, she developed a special interest in disorders of gut-brain interaction, lifestyle medicine, gut health, and the role of the microbiome in overall well-being.
Dr. Jangouk believes that optimal health requires addressing the whole person. She is a strong advocate for lifestyle and integrative medicine and recognizes the profound connection between mental, emotional, and physical health. In addition to her medical training, she is a certified mindfulness coach and Reiki Master Teacher.
A dedicated physician leader, Dr. Jangouk serves as Chair of the Marketing Committee at Austin Gastroenterology and is one of the first two women elected to the practice’s Board of Directors. She is also Chair of the GI Alliance Women in Leadership Committee and serves on the Women in GI Committee of the American College of Gastroenterology. She was also recognized as an Austin Monthly Top Doctor in both 2025 and 2026, reflecting the trust of her peers and her commitment to exceptional patient care.
Beyond her clinical and leadership roles, she is deeply passionate about creating spaces where people feel seen, connected, and empowered. She believes that meaningful relationships, authentic community, and the empowerment of women are essential ingredients for personal growth, effective leadership, and collective healing.
Dr. Jangouk is a sought-after speaker and advocate of women’s leadership in medicine. She has been invited to present at numerous national and international conferences, including the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), Digestive Disease Week (DDW), the Texas Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (TSGE), and Women in Pediatrics (WIP).
Her clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of gastroenterology and hepatology, with particular interests in colorectal cancer screening, gastrointestinal endoscopy, irritable bowel symdrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), celiac disease, iron deficiency anemia (IDA), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and liver diseases, including viral hepatitis, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), and cirrhosis. She performs upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, and esophageal pH testing.

Dr. Jangouk is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), the Texas Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (TSGE), the Texas Medical Association (TMA), and the Travis County Medical Society (TCMS).
Dr. Jangouk is fluent in English and Farsi and conversant in German and French. Outside of medicine, Dr. Jangouk enjoys travel, dancing, strength training, yoga, hiking, running, exploring new cuisines, watching films, writing, and studying languages. She lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband and their French bulldog.
