Our Vision
Working together to provide quality digestive healthcare.
Our Mission
Austin Gastroenterology, partnering with physicians and associates, is committed to quality healthcare for our patients by providing personal service and state-of-the-art endoscopic care through a compassionate, patient-focused approach.
Explore Our History
Austin Gastroenterology evolved from two individual private practices. Austin Gastroenterology Associates, PA, (AGA) was the first GI practice in Austin. It was established in 1980 by two physicians: William Gamel, MD (retired), and George Willeford III, MD (retired). AGA grew to include Craig Lubin, MD; Rashad E. Dabaghi, MD (retired); Richard M. Sperling, MD; and Robert Frachtman, MD.
In April 1998, AGA merged with Becker, Rice, & Utts, PA, headed by Scott D. Becker, MD; Dan Rice, MD (retired); and Stephen J. Utts, MD (retired), to form Austin Gastroenterology Associates, PLLC.
In January 2001, the group merged with Austin Digestive Disease Associates, PLLC, led by Frank Adams, DO (retired); William Stassen, MD; Kenneth Ellis, MD; John Ziebert, MD; and Eduardo Alcocer, MD, to become the present-day form of our practice, Austin Gastroenterology, PA.
Since that time, Austin Gastroenterology has expanded to include more than 70 board-certified physicians and mid-level providers, who provide services to patients throughout North, Central, and South Austin. AG now delivers care from 18 clinics, 4 endoscopy centers, and 2 infusion centers.

Community Outreach
At Austin Gastroenterology, we are committed to serving the communities where our patients and staff live by raising awareness and providing education on gastrointestinal (GI) conditions and treatment options.
Among the physicians who founded Austin Gastro in 1980, as well as the physicians who have since joined our practice, there is a common shared value of giving back to the community. We are dedicated to helping those without the financial means or family support gain access to quality healthcare. Our charity work, volunteerism, leadership, and community partnerships are all focused on this goal.
Get Your Rear in Gear 5K – Colon Cancer Coalition
Austin Gastro is a proud sponsor of the Colon Cancer Coalition's annual Get Your Rear in Gear 5K. The goal of the Colon Cancer Coalition is to empower local communities to promote prevention and early detection of colon cancer and to provide support to those affected.

AG Wear Blue Day
The first Friday of every March is recognized as Wear Blue Day, where community members band together on a mission to end colorectal cancer. The team at Austin Gastroenterology takes part every year to show our support and enthusiasm for life-saving colorectal cancer screenings. By wearing blue, we help bring awareness to this disease and honor all impacted by colorectal cancer.
Trailblazing Clinical Trial Research
Since 1980, we have advanced gastrointestinal care in Central Texas through more than 70 clinical trials, including groundbreaking work on hepatitis C and treatments for Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, GERD, and IBS. We have also participated in testing for now popular and trustworthy medications like Humira®, Remicade®, Nexium®, and Cimzia®. By participating in trials, patients gain access to cutting-edge treatments and technologies while reducing the cost of standard care.
