Meet Andrew Kester
A native Texan, Andrew was born and raised in Houston. Andrew earned both his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. He is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Andrew brings more than 13 years of nursing experience and 8 years as a nurse practitioner. His early career included caring for critically ill patients in high-acuity ICU settings, including the cardiothoracic, medical, surgical, and Level I trauma ICUs at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, as well as the surgical liver transplant ICU at Houston Methodist in the Texas Medical Center. He also served as an adjunct nursing instructor at his alma mater, guiding undergraduate nursing students in clinical practice at Baylor Scott & White.
As a nurse practitioner, Andrew has worked in Primary Care, ENT Medicine, and Internal Medicine as a hospitalist. This diverse background has given him a broad foundation that enriches his current work in Gastroenterology.
Andrew has been practicing Gastroenterology since 2022. He enjoys the field’s complexity and breadth, appreciating the challenge of working across multiple organ systems and the evolving understanding of gut health. He has a strong interest in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and pelvic and defecatory disorders. Andrew particularly enjoys the diagnostic process, piecing together symptoms to find answers and help patients regain their quality of life.
Andrew is passionate about building strong relationships with his patients. He believes that trust and open communication are essential, especially when managing chronic or complex GI conditions. Education is also central to his care philosophy — he strives to empower patients to actively participate in their health journey.
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, attending church at The Austin Stone, woodworking, and cheering on the Houston Astros.
