Meet Dr. Harry Thomas

Dr. Harry Thomas graduated from the University of Cambridge with a bachelor degree in natural sciences and received a medical degree from the University of Oxford. In addition, he received a master degree in public health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. After serving as a House Officer in the U.K. National Health Service, he completed his internship and residency in medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

He moved to Austin in 2014 and practiced at Baylor Scott & White, where he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Texas A&M prior to joining Austin Gastroenterology in 2017. His clinical interests include inflammatory bowel diseases, and he serves as Site Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Dr. Thomas is active with the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation, serving as co-chair of the National Scientific Advisory Committee (NSAC) Patient Education committee, member of the Austin Leadership Board, and chair of the Austin Mission Committee. In addition, he serves on the Board of Directors of People’s Community Clinic, a Federally Qualified Health Center in Austin, and on the board of the Texas Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Thomas organized a group of more than 100 local volunteer healthcare providers–Health Alliance for Vaccine Equity–to administer vaccinations to underserved populations in Austin and Travis County through pop-up clinics.
