Meet Dr. Karthik Garapati

Dr. Karthik Garapati is a board-certified gastroenterologist skilled in all areas of gastroenterology and hepatology, with a special interest in colon cancer screening and prevention via colonoscopy. He also focuses on inflammatory bowel diseases, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, esophageal disorders, and liver diseases like cirrhosis and fatty liver disease.

Dr. Garapati graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Health at San Antonio. He completed his internal medicine residency in San Antonio, as well. After completing residency, Dr. Garapati was selected to serve as the Chief Resident of Quality and Patient Safety at UT Health San Antonio and at the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio. He then completed his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at UT Health San Antonio, during which he served as the Chief Administrative Fellow during his last year of training. In 2019, Dr. Garapati was selected for the American College of Gastroenterology’s Young Physician Leadership Scholars Program, which is a program dedicated to fostering strong leadership within the GI community to advocate for national policies supporting patient care.

In his spare time, he loves discovering new restaurants, coffee shops, and trails in the Austin area and spending time with his wife and two young children.

He is a member of both regional and national professional societies, including the Travis County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
