Meet Dr. Robert Frachtman

Dr. Robert Frachtman received a bachelor degree in biology, graduating summa cum laude, from the University of Texas at Austin. He attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and completed his internship, residency, and chief medical residency at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston.

Dr. Frachtman completed his fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Washington in Seattle. He is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Frachtman practiced in Austin with Austin Diagnostic Clinic from 1984 to 1998 and joined Austin Gastroenterology in February 1998. He has been honored to be recognized as one of Texas’ Super Doctors® by Texas Monthly for 16 years running, making him a “Super Doctors Hall of Fame Legacy Member,” and one of the Best Doctors in Town by Austin Monthly.

Currently, Dr. Frachtman is a clinical assistant professor of internal medicine at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Frachtman is also an enthusiastic runner. He has completed several half marathons and three full marathons, with the most recent full marathon being the New York City Marathon in November 2017. Dr. Frachtman enjoys starting each new year participating in the Austin International Half Marathon in January (formerly called 3m Half Marathon), having completed the race in 2023, 2024, and most recently in 2025.
