Julie Neighbors completed her undergraduate studies in nursing at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas in 1995. Prior to working with Austin Gastroenterology, She was employed as an emergency department and endoscopy nurse. She completed her physician assistant studies at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in the year 2000.
Since joining Austin Gastroenterology in 2001, Julie worked under the supervision of Drs. Stassen, Ziebert, Robinson, Ellis, Godell, Long, and Frank for 3 years as a hospitalist assisting with hospital rounds and inpatient GI care. For the past several years she has worked with Dr. Godell, seeing clinic patients in the Forest Creek location.
Julie truly enjoys helping people and finds it is very rewarding when you can improve the quality of a patient’s life by treating their illness. She appreciates being able to help patients learn about their disease so that they can be actively involved in their own care. She has a particular interest in hepatology, including care of advanced liver disease patients and working with MASH (fatty liver) patients to prevent progression of their disease. She is interested in a holistic approach to GI care including diet and lifestyle as a means to achieve overall health.
