Meet Dr. Karthik Garapati

Dr. Karthik Garapati is a board-certified gastroenterologist dedicated to helping patients achieve better digestive health through compassionate, personalized care. He takes the time to listen, explain, and involve his patients in every step of their care plan, ensuring they feel supported and confident in their treatment decisions. Patients appreciate his approachable nature, clear communication, and commitment to building lasting relationships.

Dr. Garapati’s clinical interests include colon cancer screening and prevention via colonoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), esophageal disorders, and liver diseases including fatty liver disease and cirrhosis. He is committed to early detection and the latest medical therapies that improve outcomes and quality of life.

Dr. Garapati graduated from Northwestern University with a BS in biomedical engineering, and received his medical degree at UT Health San Antonio. After completing his residency, Dr. Garapati was selected to serve as the Chief Resident of Quality and Patient Safety at UT Health San Antonio and at the Audie Murphy VA Medical Center in San Antonio. He then completed his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at UT Health San Antonio, where he gained expertise across the full spectrum of digestive and liver conditions.

He is a proud member of both regional and national professional societies, including the Travis County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Society for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Garapati enjoys an active life with his wife and two children. He enjoys exploring Austin’s vibrant restaurant scene, and appreciates the balance of outdoor activities and family time that the city offers. Dr. Garapati is proud to serve the Austin community through Austin Gastroenterology and looks forward to partnering with patients on their journey to better health.
