Anita Hunter, R.N., C.A.S.C.

Administrator/Chief Nursing Officer

Anita has been a resident of Austin for the past 10 years. She has been with Austin Gastroenterology for over 6 years as the Administrator/Chief Nursing Officer. She is originally from Baltimore, Maryland and obtained her nursing degree from Union Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.

She has 30+ years of nursing experience and spent most of her time in the Emergency & Trauma department in varying positions. Anita maintains membership in the SGNA, ENA, FASA, ASPAN and APIC. She has been actively involved in gastrointestinal nursing for the past 7 years and looks forward to a long career in GI nursing. She is a Certified Administrator of a Surgery Center (CASC)

Anita’s management experience includes the Director of Trauma at Desert Regional Medical Center for several years and Director of ER, GI, Day Surgery, Employee Health and Post Anesthesia Recovery at the Heart Hospital of Austin as part of their opening management team.

Anita has spent the last several years planning, developing, and implementing the operations of both Austin Endoscopy Centers. She is responsible for the management of the Centers and their 70+ staff to ensure that the Centers operate smoothly and comply with all State, Federal and accreditation entities. Both of the Centers are Medicare and AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care) certified. Anita is also responsible for the clinical nursing aspects within the 10 offices of Austin Gastroenterology’s private practice as well.

Anita feels that the care and safety provided to the patients at the Centers and within the physicians’ practice is her most important responsibility. "Patient focused care is Austin Gastro’s number one priority."
