Notify the office if you have a pacemaker, defibrillator, or neurostimulator (these may interfere with the test and possibly cancel the test).
Do not eat or drink anything 6 hours prior.
Please arrive at the Center 15 minutes prior to the procedure.
You will need to arrive 1 hour before only if you are having an EGD- see the EGD Preparation Sheet)
Please wear clothing that is 2-pieced so that the data recorder may be attached to your waistband.
Medications:
There are Acid Blocker Medication (Nexium, Protonix, Prevacid, etc) restrictions that may result in cancellation of your procedure, if NOT followed.
Your physician wants you to:
Remain on acid blocker medication
Hold acid blocker medication _________________ for ____________days PRIOR to the procedure
You may take your other medications with a small sip of water, unless otherwise instructed by your physician.
You will not be sedated or need an IV.
You may come alone, you may drive, you may go to work, and do your normal daily activities.
The test lasts 48 hours and measures the acid reflux in the esophagus.
The RN will give you a date and time to return the data recorder to the Center.
The RN will go over all of the instructions you will need during the test. You will keep a diary for the 48 hours the test is being conducted, related to your symptoms.
The capsule will automatically fall off and be excreted in your bowel movement in approximately five to ten days. You will not need to retrieve the capsule since they are disposable.
You MAY NOT have an MRI study for 30 days following placement of the Bravo capsule.
